GENERAL INFORMATION

You MUST wear a cycling helmet for all Club rides.  Mirrors are recommended.

Once we get into May, rides are not cancelled because of the weather.  Often the dreary days turn out to be the best.

Ride single file at all times and observe the rules of the road.  We do not race, take your time and enjoy.

If you are riding in a tight group because of the wind, stop slowly and warn others of your changes in speed and of obstacles on the road.  If you move over don’t cut someone off, look first.

Always pass on the left hand side of other riders.  Call out as you start to overtake “passing on your left”.

●Maps are provided for each ride.

Be careful of railway tracks.  Cross at a right angle or you’re liable to flip.  Trip leaders usually show the tracks on their maps.  In any case, be careful.

Bring along a spare tube, a patch kit, tire irons, and a pump.  A water bottle is also a must.

Safety Tip:  Overloading your handlebar bag can cause your bike to handle poorly and to be unsafe.  Place heavy items in a rear pannier and as low as possible.  If you find yourself in a speed wobble on a downhill, don’t panic.  Apply your brakes moderately and the wobble will stop.

●Have a fantastic cycling season and make everyone’s season great by being a kind and considerate cyclist.  Also, thank your trip leaders for a job well done.  A lot of time goes into planning each ride. Guests are allowed two rides before becoming a member and signing the Halton Outdoor Club waiver form.

Notes 1) Guests are allowed two rides before becoming a member.  They MUST sign the Halton Outdoor Club waiver form to participate in a ride.

            2) Guests must become Club members to participate in trips outside of Ontario.
